You just attached a 12 MB invoice pack to an email and the mail server bounced it. Compress PDF is built for that moment: shrink the file enough to send, without shipping the document to a random converter farm first.
When to use it: email size caps, ticket systems with upload limits, or cleaning up scanned PDFs that ballooned during OCR. Light mode leans on structural cleanup so selectable text often survives. Balanced and Strong re-encode pages more aggressively when you need a smaller blob and can accept some quality loss.
Common pitfall: cranking Strong on a text-heavy contract, then discovering copy-paste broke. Start Light, check the before/after size, and only escalate if the file is still too big.
Practical tip: if pages are mostly scans, Strong usually wins. If the PDF is vector text and tables, Light or Balanced keeps the document usable.
Your PDF is read and rewritten in this browser tab. Closing the tab drops the bytes from memory; we never receive a copy for compression.

Compress PDF works with common PDF 1.3–1.7 files produced by Word, browsers, and design apps. Extremely unusual or damaged PDFs may fail validation.

It depends on the operation. Merge/split/rotate usually preserve page content; compression or rasterisation can affect visual fidelity. Preview results before discarding the original.
There is no fixed server quota, but very large page counts are limited by your device memory. Try a shorter range first if the browser becomes slow.
Keep your original PDF. Browser processing does not replace the source file until you download and overwrite it yourself.
After the page and libraries load, many PDF actions continue offline. First-time library loads need a network connection.
The web tool is free to use for typical personal and commercial workflows. Review Terms for full usage conditions.
Start from a clean source PDF, avoid repeated re-compression, and pick quality presets that match your goal (screen vs print).
