You are sending a proposal to a client and remember that the DOCX still lists the original author, a previous company name and the internal template title in its properties. File properties are easy to forget and easy for the recipient to read. This scrubber clears them before the file leaves your hands.
Choose a DOCX, XLSX, PPTX or ZIP file and click Scrub metadata. The tool opens the package with JSZip and removes docProps/app.xml, docProps/custom.xml, any docProps thumbnail and everything under customXml/. docProps/core.xml is replaced with an empty stub that keeps the structure Office expects but has blank title, creator and last-modified-by fields. The report lists the original and new size, how many files were kept, and every path removed or cleared. Download clean file saves a copy named with -scrubbed before the extension.
Open the cleaned file and check its properties before sending. Some documents use customXml for content controls or document management fields, and removing it can unbind those fields, so test anything built from a corporate template. Metadata also lives in places this tool does not touch: tracked changes, comments, hidden sheets, speaker notes and EXIF data in embedded photos. No. Those live inside the document body, not in the property files. Accept or reject changes and delete comments in Word, Excel or PowerPoint before scrubbing.
Usually, since the core properties file is kept as an empty stub. Files that depend on customXml, such as some template-based documents with bound content controls, may lose those bindings, so open the result before you send it.
No. It handles ZIP-based formats only: DOCX, XLSX, PPTX and plain ZIP archives. Legacy .doc, .xls and .ppt files use a different binary format.
